Cecilia Vicuña is a poet, artist, filmmaker, and activist. Her work addresses pressing concerns of the modern world, including ecological destruction, human rights and cultural homogenization. Born and raised in Santiago de Chile, she has been in exile since the military coup against elected president Salvador Allende (1973). Her multidimensional work began in the mid 1960s in Con-cón, Chile, as a way of "hearing an ancient silence waiting to be heard." Her poems and chants begin with an image that morphs into acts, films, or collective performances. She calls this participatory work “lo precario” (the precarious), a bridge between art and life, the ancestral and the avant-garde. Her art has been exhibited around the world, including at the Pinacoteca do Estado São Paulo, and the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the Brooklyn Museum and MoMA, New York; and at Documenta 14, in Athens, and Kassel, Germany, 2017. She is the author of twenty-five poetry books, including New and Selected Poems and AMAzone Palabrarmas (2018), About to Happen and Read Thread: The Story of the Red Thread (2017), and Spit Temple (2012). She divides her time between Chile and New York.

Ses poèmes et ses chants commencent tous par une image qui se transforme en actes, en films ou en performances collectives.
