Marrakech Dormitory

Tamaas supports a groundbreaking project in Marrakech, a dormitory opened in 2005 to house and support up to two hundred country girls who want to continue their schooling as they reach adolescence. Founded, built and run by women of Marrakech, organized as a chapter of the Soroptimist Club, the dormitory provides housing and board within a short walk of a local public school. The girls are provided with health support, extracurricular education, and regular contact with their families. Tamaas pioneers an annual after-school workshop by visiting artists who work in tandem with the girls. Projects include storytelling, language learning, painting, ceramics, film & photography, and computer design. Currently Tamaas sponsors a handful of girls, and provides for certain general needs, such as the purchase of beds & blankets. Americans wishing to sponsor a girl for a school year ($1,500) can contact Tamaas to arrange tax-deductible sponsorships through its 501(3)c.
